Assistant Professor of Cello, Head of Strings • University of California Santa Barbara
Dear Mr. Parisot—
I’m writing to wish you a WONDERFULLY HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
100 years old—wow!
I am so grateful to have had you as my (last) teacher, those 3 years at Juilliard (1993-1996). I moved to California just after that, and have been in San Francisco ever since. 20 years as the founding cellist of the Cypress String Quartet, and the last 2 as a freelance soloist and chamber musician…and professor!
One of my favorite memories of you was working on the Hindemith Concerto with you for the Juilliard Concerto competition. I didn’t win, but I learned the heck out of that piece (and was the only one to memorize it!). I still have the copied score with your markings. I only spent one summer with you at Banff, but that is another set of happy memories!
I am now teaching as well—and am forming a cello ensemble at UC Santa Barbara called the “UCSB Cello Squad” this year—so I have been listening to many of your Yale Cellos recordings.
Thank you for everything and I am happy you were born!
Happy Birthday, with love,
Jennifer
